How is the Canon of Flanders constructed?
The Canon of Flanders consists of sixty topics, called windows. Those windows are ordered chronologically. Each window is made up of an eye-catcher with an iconic image, a theme and two focus points. Besides the illustrations in the text, each window also has a ribbon of images with supplementary information. The window is rounded off with a ‘get-to-know-more list’: VRT archive images, reading tips, museums, walks and other ways of experiencing for yourself. Some windows also contain a historical map. You can find all historical maps together in this menu under the heading interactive maps.
The sixty windows are also grouped in seven main lines, which you can select separately.
Here you will find an overview of all eyecatchers, themes and focus points.
